GHAYAL (THE WOUNDED) centres round a young man Ajay Mehra (Sunny Deol) who shows great promise as a budding Boxer. Encouraged by his dotting elder brother (Raj Babbar) a successful businessman and his warm affectionate wife Indu (Moushami Chatterji), Ajay is all set to be one of the country's leading boxing champions. A pretty journalist Varsha (Meenakshi Seshadri) is Ajay's lady love. The four seem to be leading an idyllic happy life looking forward to a bright future for all with Ashok rising in his management career and Ajay developing into a National Boxer.

While on a training camp session Ajay learns of his brother's rather mysterious disappearance. Disturbed and terribly worried, he returns to Bombay and begins his relentless search of his missing brother. In the process, he discovers that several men in high position, both politically and socially, are involved and are perhaps the abductors and even murderers of Ashok.

In his attempts to expose what he knows, Ajay gets sucked into the vortex of their machinations. Suddenly he finds himself framed for his brother's death. Impotent, helpless and bewildered, Ajay finally realises the evil web that has destroyed his brother and now threatens to ruin him. The sense of injustice and acts of tyranny transforms a mild middle class man into a spouting volcano of vengeance. The tale of a prisoner who pursues his lonely path of attaining justice is the soul of "GHAYAL".
